Resveratrol, an ingredient found in red wine, grapes and grape skins, blueberries and peanuts, is said to be a wonder antioxidant that has proven to be very useful in the treatment of cancer, in reversing the aging process, in burning fat and lowering cholesterol levels, advance and promote physical activity, and prevent estrogen in men.
Resveratrol is part of the polyphenolic compound group called stilbenes, found in certain plants and are responsible for the treatment of injuries, bacterial infections and physical and mental stress, and for the protection of the body against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.
It was back in 1992, when resveratrol was found in red wine, that earned the interest and attention of scientists in the medical and health benefits of the miracle ingredient.
Laboratory tests have shown that resveratrol stops the proliferation of free radicals and other oxidants of the body, and diminishes the low density lipoprotein or harmful LDL in the body.
However, there is still little proof to back the claim that resveratrol indeed is favorable to man. When taken orally, resveratrol has been found to be lower in content than other more popular antioxidants such as Vitamins E and C.
An association has been made between the moderate intake of alcoholic drinks and the mitigation of the danger of heart illnesses, like strokes and heart attacks.
The “French Paradox” comes to fore on this matter. The French Paradox is the recognition that deaths from cardiovascular diseases is considerably low despite the French people consuming fatty foods and are into cigars and cigarette smoking.
This led to the knowledge that drinking red wine, a popular practice in France, has given a meaningful level of protection to the body against heart diseases. Resveratrol and higher amounts of flavonoids can be found in red wine.
Resveratrol has also been found to control the spread of cancer cells, including those that could proliferate the thyroid and pancreatic glands, the colon, stomach, breast and prostate. It even showed resiliency in treatment against the cancers potentially manifested in animals.
There are studies that suggest benefits from moderate alcohol intake, like raised high density lipoprotein (HDL) or the good cholesterol, lowered blood pressure, stoppage of the incidence of blood clotting in the system, and the lessening of the bad cholesterol, or the low density lipoprotein (LDL). But overall, the red wine takes precedence over other alcoholic drinks in providing benefits to the body.
In terms of the French Paradox, it is evident that the resveratrol content in red wine is responsible for affording health benefits to the body.
If you’d like to take advantage of the health benefits of resveratrol, one of the best way to do just that is to take a natural supplement that not only contains resveratrol, but also other ingredients which enhance the benefits of resveratrol naturally.
